Your organs and every other part of your body can only function normally as long as there is proper communication from the nervous system. Messages from your brain control all the rest of the body. If the messages are interrupted, slowed or blocked because of a kink in the chain, normal 100% function is impossible. It’s the goal of chiropractic care to relieve/correct pinched nerves in the spine so the body can function at its full capacity. A misalignment in the thoracic region (mid-back area) can easily irritate the nerves that control the lungs, causing and contributing to pain and lung related conditions.
Pinched nerves in the mid-back can cause pain in the lungs, shortness of breath and asthma. Patients who have chronic lung conditions like emphysema and bronchitis should absolutely include chiropractic care to help manage their conditions. Keeping the mid-back free of pinched nerves helps these patients have less pain/inflammation and as much lung function as possible. Besides pinching nerves limiting lung function, misalignments in this area of the back also cause physical restrictions on the rib cage that affects its ability to expand completely. Many of our patients report being able to ‘breathe better’ and deeper immediately after a chiropractic adjustment in the thoracic spine.
