Bursitis is an extremely common diagnosis for patients who have hip pain. The bursa is a fluid filled sac that protects the hip joint; there are two in the hip that can become irritated and inflamed. This often happens with injuries or overuse of the joint but can also be developed by laying on one side for a long time at night. Symptoms of bursitis include joint pain and tenderness when walking, sitting or laying. Traditional treatment often includes anti-inflammatories, ice, therapy and rest. While most hip bursitis is injury related, it is a temporary condition; beware of the hip bursitis that doesn’t respond to treatment! This may suggest an underlying problem that needs further investigation. When the diagnosis is bursitis, it’s also important to rule out other causes of hip pain, including degenerative osteoarthritis or neuritis from the spine.

Pinched nerves from misalignments in the lower back or pelvis commonly cause hip pain symptoms that mimic bursitis exactly. There are also many actual hip bursitis cases that are primarily caused by pinched nerves in the spine. Degenerative arthritis can also be contributory or causative of hip bursitis. When diagnosed with this condition or if the hip pain is severe, an x-ray is important to make sure the pain isn’t coming from a joint that’s deteriorating or bone on bone. At Solutions, we are an integrated team of specialists from both medical and chiropractic backgrounds. This is a huge advantage when it comes to discovering the real cause in conditions like bursitis. The other advantage is our state of the art therapies including the latest in regenerative medicine to help with degenerative conditions and precision chiropractic for spinal correction.

We see excellent results with hip bursitis cases. Some of our patients with a bursitis diagnosis also had bone on bone joint degeneration found on x-ray and were able to avoid joint replacement surgery because of the regenerative medicine treatments they got at Solutions. All patients who suffer with hip bursitis that want fast pain relief and the best, most complete recovery possible should make an appointment at our clinic. If you have hip pain when walking, sitting or laying on one side at night or have been diagnosed with bursitis, contact us for an appointment right away.
